‘Compelling reasons’ for China to keep extradition promises – officials

The value China receives from international cooperation on law enforcement is among the “compelling reasons” why the country can be trusted not to mistreat a murder suspect it wants New Zealand to extradite, officials have told the new Government.
The advice was given to Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith as he weighed whether or not to move ahead with the extradition process for Kyung Yup Kim, with the minister ultimately issuing a new surrender order in March this year.
